Remade telemarketing standard: what you need to know
The Telemarketing and Research Industry Standard 2007 has been replaced by the Telecommunications (Telemarketing and Research Calls) Industry Standard 2017.
Like the previous standard, it provides rules for businesses, other entities and individuals making telemarketing and research calls, specifying:
- when calls can be made
- what information must be included in calls
- when calls must be terminated
- the use of calling line identification (CLI)
So what’s changed and what do I need to do?
- The new Standard clarifies that where consent is used to call outside of permitted times, it must be express consent.
- Several changes have been made to the information that must be provided at the start and during a call—you may need to revise your call scripts.
- Several changes have been made to CLI requirements.
- Permitted calling times remain the same.
Where can I find more information?
- The new standard can be found on the Federal Register of Legislative Instruments.
