Warning: Australians targeted by financial investment scams

Be wary of calls offering you investment opportunities. This could be a scam.

Sophisticated financial investment phone scams are targeting Australians. Scammers impersonate well-known companies, including banks, and promise big payouts, quick money or guaranteed returns and high interest rates. They may then follow-up these cold calls with an official-looking email and attachments to make the scam seem legitimate.

If you receive a suspicious unsolicited call like this, hang up immediately and report it to Scamwatch.

Visit the Investment Scams page on ASIC’s MoneySmart website for more information about investment scams and what to look out for.

Scammers target everyone. Learn more about how to protect yourself from phone scams on the ACMA website and make a report to Scamwatch.
